How to stop phone from automatically decreasing media volume while in a call

Sometimes I watch videos or listen to music on my phone/laptop while I'm calling someone and have them on speaker. Annoyingly though, both my iPhone and Macbook seem to automatically decrease the volume of everything but the call to almost mute. So to be able to hear the media at all, I have to raise the volume to max, and then whoever I'm calling sounds way too loud... I can't find an option to turn off the automatic volume decrease.

Is anyone else having this problem, or has anyone found a solution?

iPhone 7, iOS 14

Hey zachariah243,

We understand your iPhone 7 and MacBook are having issues with the volume reducing unexpectedly. We'd be happy to help.

Sounds like you're only experiencing this when you're trying to use multiple apps which require the use of audio output, which may be expected behavior. On your iPhone though, check Settings > Sound & Haptics > Change with Buttons. If you make changes to this setting, do you continue to notice the same behavior on your iPhone? Also, are you using any headphones or other accessories which might be impacting things? If so, please remove any accessories attached to your devices and test further.

If you make phone calls on your iPhone and Mac without using any other apps, does everything work as expected?

We look forward to gathering more info to start isolating things a bit further for you.

Take care!
