I have an old ipod model MD480ZP I am trying to syn it with itunes and itunes will not recognise it. I have tried all the resets windows tells you to do

I have an old ipod model MD480ZP I am trying to syn it with itunes. Itunes will not recognise the ipod. I have tried all the resets windows tells you to do but nothing I keep getting from itunes an ipod has been detected but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect reconnect etc. I have done this a dozen times, turned the computer off etc. My computer recognizes the ipod, it is in portable devices just no connect with itunes. Can someone help, Thanks
