Thanks for joining Apple Support Communities. From your post, it looks like you're using an external Superdrive and you receive an alert that it's unsupported; is that right?

Does it appear immediately after you connect the drive to your iMac, or when you insert a disc?

Which iMac model do you use? Identify your iMac model. Knowing this would help in working out whether an adapter might be needed.

To look at a few other possibilities, have you been able to use other peripherals and accessories with your iMac?

If you create a temporary administrator account and sign in there, does the same issue occur? That would tell you if the issue is system-wide or user account-specific: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac
