If they switched the SIM card then the service should have been switched with it immediately. The sim card is what holds your service. There is no delay.
If you still see no-service message, check the SIM card installation: link-> Remove or switch the SIM card in your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
If it still won't work, then you'll still need to contact your carrier for a new SIM card.

Contact your service provider. Apple does not handle cell service.
You need to request a new SIM card from your cell service provider.
But the lady at apple has already switched my sim over to the new phone from my old phone.
