Songs missing on iPhone, appear with DUPLICATE as song name, appear fine on Mac in iTunes

iPhone 12 mini with 14.4, MacBook Pro 2016 with Catalina and not using Music service, this is strictly songs in my Library. Current version of Apple Music on both devices.

I went to play an album today on my iphone 12 mini, and noticed half of it was missing, plus some songs had been replaced with a song titled DUPLICATE.

I took the phone over to my mac and plugged it in, made sure it was set to sync all songs, and started the sync, and when it was done, there was no difference.

I looked in iTunes at the phone, and scrolled through the long list of tunes and found that it showed the complete album was on the iphone, so i searched for one of the missing songs, and it found it, but when I used the song to show me the whole album, it again showed the bad song list.

If I search for DUPLICATE on the iPhone, no results.

is there a way to force a reset of the library on the iphone?

Here's what iTunes says is on my phone:

Here's what appears on my phone. Notice that the song that is playing does not appear on the list of songs on the album!

Enable the Grouping, Work, and Movement columns in your library. The affected tracks are likely to have non-empty values in Work, which triggers this, that they likely inherited from Grouping. Work should be blank unless you're also going to complete the movement names & numbers and the composer.

Replying to myself, but I finally found it - when looking at the Get Info, there's a dropdown to switch from Artist to Work Name. If you flip it you can clear a single song. As a group, a checkbox appears above the Artist that says Use Work and Movement, and you can check that box, clear the field, and uncheck it to go back to normal.

This is a bummer because I use grouping for smart playlists, so I'll have to keep an eye on it.
