Last Itunes update (12.10.10)

Have had my ipod for about 15 years now, laptop wouldnt recognize my ipod being plugged in. It's happened before, plenty of times, and I was always able to fix it by trying different things in these communities. This time I realized, for the first time as far as I can recall, Itunes 12.10.10 update not only didn't install USB drivers, it erased the drivers I already had. So I haven't been able to update my ipod for the last couple months. Also, I saw something about an Itunes update 12.11, yet everytime I open my Itunes and "check for update" it says Itunes 12.10.10 is the latest version. Can anybody help me with that? Is there a way to update just the drivers? Is Itunes 12.11 legit? Why wouldn't my Itunes already know about that?

If you're running Windows 7 or 8 then iTunes 12.10.10.2 is the last version that Apple have released. iTunes 12.11.0.25 and future version are for Windows 10 only.

ugh, i was hoping that was not the answer, i have 2 laptops with windows 10 but i was keeping my itunes on my windows 8.1 laptop for multiple reasons i've spent so **** long getting everything setup correctly on there i don't feel like going through all that again, plus i don't want to take up all the hundreds of gb of space on those others, do you know if there's a way to install just the drivers? without installing itunes itself?
