Obsolete iPods and new iTunes

Hi, I have been unable to play any song in iTunes because it needs some updating. However, having read a lot of stuff online, I am worried the newer iTunes will no longer recognise my Classic iPod version 2.04.

Any idea? The update recommended to me at the moment is 12.8.1 instead of the 12.4.1.6 currently working fine.

I am feeling at a loss here.

Thanks for your advice!

iTunes 12.8.1.3 should work with your iPod although the current build is actually 12.8.2.3. There is however an issue for Apple Music subscribers where Browse and For You appears to be broken in El Capitan. Apple Music users should upgrade to Sierra or better if possible. iTunes 12.7 removed the ability to transfer clickwheel games to iPod. If you need that facility you need to install iTunes 12.6.5.3. instead. See iTunes for Mac installers - Apple Community for download links.
