Remove Cupertino Weather

Do iOS haptic gesture standards distinguish between swipe and drag? Experienced iPhone users on this site advise "swipe right to left" to delete a Weather app location, but the actual gesture appears to be "drag right to left." Moreover, that action does not actually delete the location, but rather only exposes a Delete button. As a new iPhone user from Android--couldn't find a high-end Android phone smaller than a paperback book--I will confess that it took me almost an hour to figure out how to delete Cupertino from the Weather app.
