After I finished using the iPad last night, I decided to install the latest system update. The iPad switch off and I haven't been able to turn it back on since. Holding down the various buttons doesn't work. Did this update kill my iPad?

Well, it certainly wasn’t clear what (if anything) had been attempted. If you have followed all the procedure that I provided without success, including the final link, then seeking assistance directly from Apple is the most appropriate next step.
Thanks but as I wrote initially, no efforts to restart the iPad have been successful following the update. I've booked a slot at the Apple store.
