Left shift key suddenly turned "soft"

Yesterday, while I was using my MacbookPro 2020 as usual, I noticed that the left shift key no longer has the "click" that the other keys (including the right shift) seem to have. It feels more "soft". This is a problem for me since a lot of my work involves coding which means my pinky is constantly on the left shift.

Without the clear feedback of a press that I am used to, I am now double-pressing the shift each time to ensure that I have it help down. My brain is melting. Is this a known issue? I keep my MacBook keyboard generally quite clean and free from dirt

It's just over 8 months old.

Please help!

Hello BhandarkarPawan,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. We understand that you have concerns regarding the Shift key on your keyboard. If the key is still functional, there likely isn't any issue with it. You may simply want to try giving your keyboard a cleaning to see if that makes a difference. You will find information on cleaning your device here: How to clean the keyboard of your MacBook or MacBook Pro.

If you continue to have concerns or suspect there's a fault with the key, you may want to have it checked out by a technician. You can find information regarding inspections and repairs for your MacBook at Mac Service and Repair.

Best regards.
