creating EXIF data in a scanned jpeg...

Hi, ive recently scanned a whole bunch of old photos and would like to add EXIF data of when they were taken.

Im using an app to add the EXIF data, but for some reason not all the jpegs seem to let me create EXIF data (don't ask me why).

Does anybody know of any simple apps or commands that would add raw EXIF data to a whole load of files so that I can then edit it?

thanks for any help!

Nick

Frequently, the problem is that scanned jpegs have nowhere to write the exif data to.

Workaround: Import the images to an app like Photos and add the data there. If you then want independent copies export from Photos and that will create a Jpeg plus the added metadata.
