copy and paste, highlighted cell

I want to copy and paste. So I highlight the cell that I want to copy and paste, then when I move my mouse arrow up to the top of the computer screen so that I can click copy, as soon as the arrow touches the toolbar, the highlight immediately goes away. This prevents me from being able to copy. Any suggestions ? Are there any other ways I can copy and paste?

Use the keyboard.

Command key (held down) and then the c key is copy.

Command key (held down) and the v key is paste.
