Hi, I'm new around here, always lurking never posting, however today I pulled the trigger on a custom order iMac. What I'm wondering is if 4 sticks of ram (4x8 32GB) is better than doing 2 sticks of ram (2x16 32GB)
I was looking at owc ram upgrade packages and just didn't know what to get.
the iMac I bought today looks like this:
-Intel i7 8 core cpu
-8GB ram
-Radeon Pro 5700 XT
-1TB ssd

You can just add 2x16GB modules, leave the 8GBs in and have 40GBs.

If you insist on removing the Apple RAM, it makes no difference. FWIW, 40GBs is better than 32GBs. 😎
I have done a good amount of reading, and everything says to "not" add ram on top of the apple stuff.??
I have no idea where you read that but people do it all the time. You do need to purchase the correct RAM of course. OWC or Crucial RAM are the only RAM modules recommended here.
Okay, will it not lower the speed from 2666 down. also, is it better to fill all the ram slots? or just use 2 sticks?
It won't lower the speed if you buy the correct 2666MHz RAM modules.
