How to choose thumbnail in iMovie

Can someone guide me how to choose a thumbnail in iMovie? I am using iMovie 10.2.2 version, macOS Big Sur (if that makes any difference?)

Thanks.

iMovie randomly selects the thumbnail from the middle of the movie. There is no feature that allows it to be set manually. You can add a black background of suitable duration to the end of the movie to change the midpoint of the movie. That can work fairly well for short movies. The thumbnail still would be randomly selected, but just different than the initially selected one.

However, one poster on here found a clever workaround to select the thumbnail. Take a look at the solution in this thread:

I tried it and it worked.
