IPad Magic Keyboard backlight keys problem.

Hi there,

I just purchased a new Magic Keyboard 11’ inch for my IPad Air 2020. Everything works a charm but the backlit keys don’t turn on unless it is in a dark setting. How do I manually change the brightness level? I know about the settings and the ability to change the brightness level using the slider but it doesn’t work for me!! It is stuck to the far left. The ambient light sensors appear to have it stuck at 0. It’s fine that it changes in a dark room but I would like to have the ability to manually change and for it to stay at the desired level. If someone knows a solution that’d be great! Btw the iPad has the latest software update.

Cheers,

J

Hello Confusedsoul98,

We understand that you're not able to adjust the Magic Keyboard's backlight keys unless the environment is dark. Per Set up and use Magic Keyboard for iPad - Apple Support, "Like an iPad, the brightness of the Magic Keyboard adjusts automatically to match the light in your environment." The sensor in question is that of the iPad.

As a test, ensure the iPad has all cases and keyboards removed. Then, turn on the automatic brightness feature for the iPad's display and test how it responds. We want to see if the sensor itself is playing a role in this or if its specific to the keyboard.

Thanks!
