Airpod pros amplifying background on compute

My Airpod Pros work perfectly when connected to my iphone, or ipad. However, when I connect them to my computer, they pickup and amplify even the softest sounds in the background, with considerable latency too. It's almost like they act as hearing aids. Even typing gently on my laptop is a barrage of noise. I've tried mutiple resets and forgets, but nothing has worked.

Hello richmakesrecords,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities! We definitely understand you need both AirPods working so you can listen without any distractions. We'll be glad to help.

If you turn off Noise Cancellation or Transparency, does the same thing happen? Here's how to do this: AirPods Pro and AirPods Max Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode

Try resetting your AirPods: Reset your AirPods

Sometimes an interference may cause these issues. Please test your AirPods using the steps here: Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference

Any improvement after these steps?

Are you playing content already synced or downloaded to your computer, or are you streaming content? If streaming, test with downloaded content.

We look forward to hearing back from you with the result.

Have a great day!

richmakesrecords,

Thanks for testing and providing the results. Let's continue with trying some other steps.

Since this is only happening with your Mac, please follow the steps here to back up and update: How to update the software on your Mac

Try connecting and testing different Bluetooth headphones with your Mac. Does the same thing happen?

If you're continuing to experience the same thing after completing those steps, please reach out to us directly: Get Support

Take care.

Hello,

I replied to this earlier but I think it glitched and the reply was lost. See my answers below.

This happens in either mode.

I have reset my airpods four seperate times and the issue persists.

Nothing here has helped

doesn't matter about streaming vs synced content. It happens even if no content is playing back. As soon as the airpod pros are connected to the computer, they pick up and play back every little noise very loudly in my ear with a decent amount of latency. This does not happen with the phone or ipad.
