Garageband: No input sources selected?

MacOS Mojave, 10.14.6

I'm trying to record in GarageBand, but for some reason there is an error "no input sources selected"

I went in and made sure that system preferences were set to give GarageBand permission to use the microphone, checked that the input was working in the audio section of system preferences, selected the input device I was using (was using bluetooth headphone) in GarageBand preferences, checked that the input was selected under smart controls, and even ditched the headphones and tried switching the input to the internal microphone, but it's still not working. Not even sure it's a Mojave issue because I was able to record weeks ago after installing Mojave.

Any ideas?

Hi wiqarrr,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. From our understanding, when using Garageband, you are not able to select any input audio source do we have that right? Does the input audio function in any other app? Since noticing this issue, has your Mac been restarted? You mentioned that it worked after installing macOS Mojave, did you also update Garageband?

Log out, sleep, wake, restart or shut down your Mac

Use the App Store to update apps on Mac

Hope that helps!
