how to prevent itunes from loosing focus of the song being edited

Hi, i have wrestled with this for so many years and developed a habit of working around it by pressing Command L to return me to the current song I'm listening to.

But this is the problem. With my library in song view mode I see a long list of songs (250 gigs). I'm looking at and wanting to listen to all of the songs titled...let's say "Forever Young". My library ordered alphabetically, I'm wanting to go down the list and listen to each song. Sometimes I edit song title info while listening to it.

When I edit a song while listening to it though, sometimes it edits track info as expected and leaves me looking at the same library song list that hasn't shifted. But the other 50% of the times, after the track is edited, I am suddenly shifted to the top of the library song list to songs beginning with "A". Like "All My Love". Grr. So now I'm in the A section of my song list and I yet I still wish to be viewing the songs titled "Forever Young", so I have to scroll back to where I was to return to the initial view.

So...hopefully i've been clear enough and you can understand my grievance. I would be so grateful to hear from you on this issue. It has driven me crazy for years because I'm constantly editing my music while listening to it and it constantly is kicking me far from where I was working.

So, is there anyway I can get iTunes to not loose focus of the songs I'm looking at/editing?

Thank you

My approach is to use the column browser or the search box with search entire library not selected so it filters to some text you enter. Either way the list of displayed songs can be the particular album or artist I'm working with so that I don't lose my place after an edit.

Yeah exactly. As best I can determine, I can limit the "damage" of it's default behavior by limiting the results, or working with a smart playlist, but even still-- the behavior still seems buggy to me that it skips from the song I'm listening to and editing, and instead skips up to the top of my library song list.

I would love to hear from an Apple support person. Do they monitor this group or is it just users chiming in? I'm just so curious to know if this is a "bug"...because it's been this way for years. I wish someone could just confirm I'm not just being crazy.

i see what you mean now. But that requires I drill into a particular album or a particular artist. I like to view all the of the versions of a particular song by all artists in my library. So I prefer to have no selections made to limit results. I want it all. But as soon as I change the details of the track I'm listening to it kicks me right back up to the very top of the list.

This is a user to user support forum. Apple don't really monitor the forums for feedback. There are some community specialists who sometimes reply to otherwise unanswered posts but you wouldn't get an answer to the is this a bug question, nor any insight into the logic or otherwise of the current behaviour. Best you can do is work with it as it is and submit feedback if you are so inclined.
