iMessages keep disappearing as soon as I click on them in Big Sur

I just got a new MacBook Air yesterday, have Big Sur installed, and when I open messages, anytime I click on a contact's name to see the messages or write them a message, their messages disappear as well as their whole entry in the messages app. So my messages app is now empty...

When I try to find a contact through search to send them a message, the message history is totally blank. Any help here? Thanks!

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.0

Hello marcam214,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're experiencing an issue with the Messages app on your new MacBook.

We suggest that you start troubleshooting this issue by force closing the Messages app and give your MacBook a restart.

How to force an app to quit on your Mac

Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac

If the issue persists once those actions are completed, try booting up into safe mode and see if the issue persists. Booting into safe mode allows your MacBook to perform a basic check of your startup disk, like running First Aid in Disk Utilities. Once you've done testing in safe mode, reboot normally and test again.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Best regards.
