Mail Follow Up & Remind Me Not Working

I have two issues with the new mail functions in MacOS:

  1. The "Remind Me Later" options for mail messages are greyed out, and thus I cannot choose to have mail remind me about them later.
  2. Emails requiring follow ups seem to be correctly labelled for Follow Up, however they do not move to the top of my mailbox as I would expect.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi chief86,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

We understand that your Mail is not moving your Follow Up mail t the top and you're unable to select the option to be reminded about emails.

For these features, make sure that your Mac has been updated to the latest macOS version and restarted to restart currently running processes. If this continues, enter in safe mode where startup items are limited to run while a health check is performed and check for the same behavior.

Apple silicon
1. Shut down your Mac.
2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

Intel processor
1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window.

You can find these steps and steps on how to proceed in How to use safe mode on your Mac.

Regards.

@rskane It appears that you have to have the message/thread that you want a reminder about in your inbox. Moving the message back to the inbox will allow you to create a reminder, but if you attempt to move it to another mailbox the reminder will go away. I'm not sure if this is part of the feature or a bug, but seems to make it overall pretty useless you like keeping all of your messages in your inbox.

From what I can see, it not available when you slide the e-mail as per here : Use Remind Me to come back to emails later in Mail on Mac - Apple Support in any other box except Inbox. In other boxes, I only see it in macOS Ventura 13.2 by right clicking the message as per various examples above, you see a menu list pop-up that allows you to set a Remind me (in my case it is NOT greyed out and I can set one when viewing the e-mails in other boxes).

This is the problem I was having... not a very good feature that you can't use it while searching...

Once I clear the search then I have to manually scroll through my inbox and look for the email I was just viewing (while searching) so that I can set a reminder.

Any work arounds for easily finding the email again once you clear the search? I tried double-clicking the email to have it open but you can't set the reminder that way... or at least I don't know how to - I can only do it by right/control clicking on the email in the main inbox directory...

It seems that Follow Up does not work on archived messages, rendering the feature useless for me: when I have answered an email, I archive it in one of my local mail folders in order to avoid cluttering my inbox.

Is this by design, and, if so, could someone explain the reasoning behind it?

Regardless, I would greatly appreciate if this feature were improved to work on archived messages too. I was excited by this new feature of Ventura, but, as it stands, it's a let down. Thanks!
