error message in cellular settings

i have an iPhone 7 and periodically, I get this message in settings:

An update is required to use cellular data on this iPhone.

I haven't been able to make or receive calls or texts the whole day.

I've heard this is a glitch with certain models. Anyone familiar with this? and how i can get it repaired?
