Airport extreme A1359 won't hard reset/factory reset

I'm passing long my Airport Extreme A1359 to someone else and have been following the online directions to do a hard reset (below), but at Step 7 I don't get the option of "Restore previous settings," only "Create a new network," "Add to an existing network" and "Replace an existing device."

Any other way to do a complete factory reset?

Thanks in advance

Hard reset:

  1. Make sure that the base station is connected to power.
  2. Press and hold the reset button for about 5 seconds, until the status light on the base station flashes amber rapidly. Then release the button.
  3. Wait about a minute for the base station to finish restarting.
  4. Open AirPort Utility, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
  5. Click the Other Wi-Fi Devices button, then select your base station from the list. Click Edit.
  6. Click the Other Options button.
  7. Click ”Restore previous settings,” then click Next until you get to the final window.
  8. When AirPort Utility indicates that setup is complete, click Done.

There are different ways to skin a cat. Not a big deal, but Apple never offered an A1359 AirPort Extreme. You likely meant to say A1354.

If you want to move the AirPort to another user, you would want to reset it to factory default settings. A Hard Reset will not do that, because the previous settings for the AirPort will still be maintained in the memory.

It is little cumbersome, but in order to do a Factory Default Reset......

Power off the AirPort Extreme and leave it off for a minute or two

Hold in the reset button first....and keep holding it in while you simultaneously plug the power cord back into the AirPort

Keep holding the reset button another 5-6 seconds and then release

Allow a full minute for the AirPort to restart

Power off the AirPort

That's it.

You would NOT use AirPort Utility at all unless you wanted to set up and reconfigure the AirPort again. This is true for both a Hard Reset and a Factory Default Reset.

Not sure where you saw the instructions to use AirPort Utility as part of a Hard Reset It is not used for a Hard Reset.

Maybe the instructions you saw were assuming that you wanted to keep the AirPort yourself and reconfigure the AirPort again while keeping a record of the previous settings. Then.....you would use AirPort Utility after you performed the Hard Reset.
