Air Print issue Epson xp-310

Epson xp-310 printer fails to wake on air print with our apple devices when trying to print. Have Linksys EA6350 router and printer shows on device page-as active. Printer is on but in sleep mode. If I turn off and then on, printer reconnects and works fines for couple minutes then air printer not found message. Have tried reinstalling, reinstalled printer to router, router on/off et al. Using with 2 iPhones, 2 iPads and MacBook Pro. It did work properly at one time but maybe updates have impacted things. Is printer too old as Epson is not updating any longer?

Hey there flyfish11,

We'd like to help get your printer working right with AirPrint. You've tried some great steps already!

We also see it's a model listed here: About AirPrint

Let's continue ruling out some basics:

  1. You mentioned updating your devices, but there may be a newer firmware update available for your Epson printer. You will need to contact Epson in order to confirm this, along with obtaining the steps to update its firmware if a newer version is available. We believe to have found their support link: Epson Official Support
  2. Just like your devices and printer, your Wi-Fi router may also have an available firmware update. As you mentioned it's one made by Linksys, you'll need to reach out to them to check for this. Here's the link to Linksys support: Official Linksys Support Site
  3. For compatible iPhone and iPad models, the latest version would be iOS/iPadOS 14.4. For compatible Macs, the latest is macOS Big Sur 11.2. For your iPad and iPhone devices, you can verify which version number is installed within Settings > General > About. Here's a link that'll show how to first back up, then Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. For your Mac, you can verify which version number is installed by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left corner of the screen, then on ‘About This Mac’. Here's how to first Back up your Mac with Time Machine, and afterwards, here's How to update the software on your Mac.
  4. Have you been able to test any of your devices with another AirPrint compatible printer? While most people only use one printer, this would help with narrowing down what could be causing this to occur if you have another one to test.
  5. Lastly, we recommend taking the steps not already tried under the section 'Make sure you have the latest software' here: Solve printing problems on Mac

Take care!

Thanks for the reply. All devices are up to date with most recent os and iOS. Did find updated drivers for printer and installed (64 bit) but still have same issue of not waking up printer. If turn off printer then back on works fine from all devices for few minutes then will not wake up with devices showing “unable to locate air printer”. So strange as works fine for those few minutes. Our phones, iPads et al work with other printers. As the xp310 is several years old may have to purchase new printer/scanner, though as we do not print all that much may just live with inconvenience we are experiencing. My gut suggests that it has to do with new Apple operating systems and Epson not willing to spend any more effort (or not able) to bring older equipment fully up to date. I do teach basic Apple user classes and have found with the wide variety of devices that little issues arise that we are unable to always figure out.
