Bluetooth Keyboard Lagging on Mac (Apple Magic Keyboard)

The letters on my Bluetooth magic keyboard just register on my computer too late. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I could do? This only started happening after I got an external monitor. My keyboard is lagging a lot even as I am writing this...

bluetooth keyboard keys not working 3 apple bluetooth keyboards, 2 new apple keyboards just purchased, 1 macalley bluetooth keyboard have the same issue. U,I,O,J,K,L,M,period will not type. usb keyboard seems to have sporadic issues. I have reviewed all of the accessibility setting and keyboard setting but cannot resolve. anyone else seen this type problem? currently using a windows usb keyboard and the on screen pop up keyboard. Blue tooth keyboard for 2012 MacBook Air? My 2012 MacBook air keyboard is defective. Will a Bluetooth external keyboard function with a computer this old?
