Uninstall Icon from Launchpad?

I have a shortcut icon (https///bit.ly) in my Launchpad that I am not able to uninstall. It ends up opening 2 different Chrome browsers for a TI-84 graphing calculator Chrome extension. How do I delete this icon from my Launchpad?

I have already tried the following:

  • Holding down the Option button, but the icon does not give me an "X" to click
  • Dragging the icon to the Trash bin
  • Going to Finder > Applications - it wasn't listed
  • I double-checked all of my different Google accounts that I was logged into through Chrome, and I don't have that extension for any of my Chrome accounts

Thanks in advance if someone can solve my dilemma!

BryZBoiler,

Thanks for letting us know.

You mentioned that the application isn't listed in Finder; if you search for the app/shortcut using Spotlight, does it appear? "Most apps are in your Applications folder, which you can open by clicking Applications in the sidebar of any Finder window. Or use Spotlight to find the app, then press and hold the Command (⌘) key while double-clicking the app in Spotlight." More about that in the link we provided in our initial reply.

More details about using Spotlight here: Search with Spotlight on Mac

If that doesn't help, let's see if you're able to delete the icon using the steps in the article we previously provided, while in safe mode. This page has some great information on using safe mode: How to use safe mode on your Mac

Thank you!

Hello BryZBoiler,

It sounds like you want to delete an icon from your Mac, but you're not able to remove it from the Launchpad, correct? We want to help.

"Apps that don't show an X button either didn't come from the App Store or are required by your Mac. To delete an app that didn't come from the App Store, use the Finder instead."

You can find more information about using Finder to delete apps under the "Use the Finder to delete an app" part of this page: How to delete apps on your Mac

We hope that helps. Thanks!
