Target disk mode

My MacBook Air says there's an error with the software update, now it goes to a screen that only gives the option to do a "Target Disk Mode" restart.

But even if I choose this is keeps going through the same cycle and won't restart. Help!

This is the error I get when I try to upgrade to Monterey: “The operation couldn’t be completed. (PKDownloadError error 8.)" I'm not sure what is wrong and I would love any advice on how to fix this. "The file can't be found." on booting... Everytime I start my MacBook Pro (intel chip), I get two error message. Both say "The file can't be found". This has been happening ever since I updated to big sur. I have to click on "OK" (twice) to make them go away. Neither does it tell you what file can't be found. I just updated to Ventura 13.1 and the problem remains. As does the control strip/touch bar issue. Is Apple going downhill...SMH.

Accidently deleted Macintosh HD on Disk Utility - now my mac won't start up Earlier today I was trying to reset my Macbook Pro (2016 model on MacOS Big Sur) to sell and I deleted Macintosh HD from the Disk Utility software thinking that it would reset my mac to factory settings. Now my Mac can't start up and shows a folder with a question mark in it. First Aid does not work for any of the internal options. "Preboot", "Recovery" and "VM" are unmounted every time I go back in to Disk Utility. First Aid for Internal > AppleAPFSMedia does not work and says I need to repair the startup volume by running First Aid from Recovery? Isn't that what I'm doing? When I try re-install MacOS it only shows "Macintosh HD - Data" & "Update" and the installation always fails when reaching the end on either option. Attached is a photo of my Internal disks on Disk Utility. I would appreciate any help, thank you in advance!

Target Disk Mode basically turns a Mac into an external disk drive that, in theory, you can connect to another functional Mac to be able to access its contents.

I am assuming that you tried starting your Mac in Recovery Mode and were unsuccessful doing so ... correct?
