external drive disconnects

External drive keeps disconnecting. This is on Mac Pro with USB based external Mercury Elite Dual Pro. Drive disconnects every 5 minutes. Disk has 2 10TB Seagate Red drives configured in Span. It is being used by Time Machine. I've run Disk Utility/First Aid and no issues. Reformatted drive. Did SMC reset. I have disable "Turn Off Drive" and "power nap". 1) Is there any way to install internal Hard Drives in Mac Pro? It seems like the problem of external drives disconnecting has been going on since Catalina, so I assume Apple does not intend to fix it.

Hey there corb555,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. We understand you're having issues with your external hard drive disconnecting from your Mac Pro, and we'd be happy to help.

To get started, you've done some great troubleshooting steps to troubleshoot this issue. Going forward, give the additional steps listed in the links below a try, and let us know if that helps:

If still having issues after those steps, let us know if the issue occurs when you connect the external drives to a different device, and we'll continue from there.

Take care!
