Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! We understand that the vibration and sound notifications aren't working as expected for your new messages. Complete the following steps, testing after each one to see if the issue resolves:

• Tap Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Text Tone. From here, make sure "Vibration" is set with a pattern and not set to "None", and that the "Alert Tone" is chosen and also not set to "None"
• Be sure the Do Not Disturb feature is not causing this: Use Do Not Disturb on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
• Double check the notification settings to ensure they're set correctly: Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
• Check to ensure your software and apps are updated. The current software version is iOS 14.4. To see which software version you have installed, tap Settings > General > About. If an update is needed, be sure to back up your iPhone first:

  • Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
  • Update apps or use automatic downloads
• Check for a carrier update after ensuring 14.4 is installed, by tapping Settings > General > About again. If one is available, it will pop-up here to install: Update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad
• Tap Settings > Notifications > Messages, then turn off "Notification Grouping". Restart your iPhone, then turn that setting back on.
• Does the issue continue? If so, check your date and time settings by tapping Settings > General > Date & Time. From here, be sure "Set Automatically" is turned on, and the "Time Zone" area shows correct. If changes are made here, restart your iPhone again, then test the notifications.
• If you're using a VPN or security software, temporarily disable or remove those to see if the notifications appear as expected. If so, you'll want to reach out to the app developer to look into this more: How to contact an app developer

Thanks for letting us know that you're also using the Apple Watch too, and the notifications appear there. If you're using your Apple Watch the notifications will always appear on your watch when:

• "If your iPhone is unlocked, you'll get notifications on your iPhone, instead of your Apple Watch."
• "If your iPhone is locked or asleep, you'll get notifications on your Apple Watch, unless your Apple Watch is locked with your passcode."
