Complete system backup to external drive but needs more than one disk how do you do it

If you are using Time Machine, you need to use a large enough external drive. Same thing if you are making a bootable "clone." The backup drives cannot be pieced together. For a complete system backup, the backup drive must be large enough to contain the entire source being backed up.
