I have music on my phone that I bought from iTunes years ago. Is it possible for me to use my music that I already purchased on the Home Pod mini? Or - must I join Apple Music, if I want to hear music on my Home Pod Mini?

I have a new Home Pod Mini. I would like to use my music (on my iPhone) that I purchased from iTunes years ago on the Home Pod Mini. Is this possible??

It seems like I have to pay for Apple music every month, is it possible to play music on the Home Pod Mini without joining Apple Music?

The HomePodMini should work with any music that is already on your Apple devices - iPhone SE, iPhone 6s or later, or iPod touch (7th generation) with the latest iOS; or iPad Pro, iPad (5th generation or later), iPad Air 2 or later, or iPad mini 4 or later with the latest iPadOS however it got there.
