Hello ... my I phone is clogged with voice memos / they are backed up to i cloud but it’s frustrating this does not free up space on the phone like photos work when backed up to iCloud ... I have 40gb voice memos ( which are mostly song sketches ).

To start, if you have the Voice Memos option enabled in your iCloud settings, this is just for syncing Voice Memos across devices. Voice Memos aren't stored directly in iCloud like pictures are. So for example, if you have the Voice Memos option enabled in your iCloud Settings, and you make a new memo, that memo will automatically show up on other devices you have, like an iPad for instance.

If you want to delete the Voice Memos application, you'll want to first navigate to Settings > your name at the top > iCloud, and turn the Voice Memos app option off. This will prevent anything from being deleted on your other devices. When you delete the application, any Voice Memos you have stored on that particular device will be deleted as well.
