Photos on Macbook Pro

Hey everyone!

I took a video with my iPhone 12 pro and then went to my Photos app on my computer to pull it up and edit it. When I open in Photos it tells me that the video is unsupported? If it helps, my Macbook Pro is a 2016. thx for any advice! Trying to put my students videos together since they can't perform in person!

It's sounds like your shooting HEIC format, super compressed. You need High Sierra or newer for your OS on the Mac to use that format.

Otherwise you can change the format on the iPhone to the most compatible:

For those already in the library see if you can export them (not as unedited originals) but in one of these formats, whichever fits your needs:

If yopu can do that that should produce a video file that you can use on your machine.

Hi

What version of MacOS are you using?

Is your phone still set to record in HDR video. Most software can't support this yet. Only MacOS big sur will at all. Try going to camera settings>record video> and turn off HDR video.

If you need to use videos you've already recorded in HDR, you will need to use iMovie on your phone to convert it to SDR, or do the editing on your phone, or an iPad running IOS 14.

If you have Catalina and iMovie 10.2, you should be able to import the HDR videos from iPhone 12, and edit, and then output in SDR.
