iPhone 12 mini back glass cracked

I read:

- Last year, marketing chief Phil Schiller said the iPhone XS had "the most durable glass ever built into a smartphone."

- When Apple announced the iPhone 11 Pro, it touted improved durability with stronger glass and better water-resistance.

- Apple claims that the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus have "the most durable glass in a smartphone ever - front and back."

I'm sure Apple would contend that these claims also apply to your newer iPhones, like my 1 month old iPhone 12 mini.

When it slipped out of my pocket and fell 36" to the floor it suffered multiple cracks radiating from a lower corner of the rear glass.

Would this be considered evidence of a manufacturing defect? Or are all these durability claims greatly exaggerated?

Is this covered by the warranty?

It is glass. More durable does not mean it won’t crack. No it’s not covered under warranty but if you have AppleCare+ you can get it repaired (well...replaced) for a lot less than the “out of warranty” price. This is a cosmetic issue that was caused by accident when you dropped it. Not a defect at all. Know that’s not what anyone wants to hear though

Is there somewhere I missed where Apple tells me that even though their phones are durable I should not use it until I have covered it with an appropriate case?

And not nice of them to make the most exposed part the hardest to replace.

They leave me with one choice, to pay $400 to fix a cosmetic issue on a $700 mobile.

Well, on to plan B then, I'll have to get one of those automobile windshield crack repair kits.

Any other suggestions?
