iOS Notes app - Pasting a URL into Notes results in null error

Hi guys, when I copy a URL (via the Share-Copy function on iPad) and I paste the contents into iOS Notes I get Null.

I don’t get the URL or a preview of the URL. But I get a failed preview. See image.

This has been happening for at least a year now (iOS 13 and 14.)

The workaround I must use: paste clipboard into a dumb text field then copy that text back up for pasting.

Any ideas to solve this?

Thanks for the reply.

I didn’t know about the Share to Notes function; it’s cool.

(Yeah, it’s right there in the Share menu.)

But I don’t want a web Preview shoved into my Note by iOS.

I want the URL (text string) in the Note where I want it placed.

It seems with every iOS improvement we gain something and lose something.

Why must URLs be previews?

Thanks for the link Always. I didn't know about dragging. But of course, why not be able to drag?!

If I use Share—Copy I get the error.

If I copy the URL by tapping the top of the browser window I can get the raw URL and it works as expected.

It seems Share—Copy has some smarts to it. There-in lies my problem— I don’t want the added Preview feature.

stephen.ph,

When you copy the URL are you tapping to the URL at the top of Safari, and then selecting copy from the list of choices provided in the black boxes? If so, when you paste it are you again tapping your finger to the place in the note where you want the URL and selecting paste from the list of options in the black boxes?

This article has information under the heading, "Copy text and objects to and from another app", which may be helpful:

If you are still unable to copy and paste the actual URL to your notes, you may want to leave feedback for Apple here: Feedback - iPad - Apple

All the best.
