Macbook Air M1 brightness issue

Hi,

I want to set up my macbook air (big sur 11.2.1) display brightnes manually ( about 80% of max). All the automatic functions (display brightness, true tone, night shift) are off. If I reboot my computer the brightness is on higher level then before. It does not save my previous setting. Is there any solution? I want to use the mabook on a constant brightness level.

Thanks

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.2

I have found a workaround that will work at every login.

There is a command line application called "brightness".

It is only provides as a source files so you would need to

install Xcode in order to build it. Once it has been built,

you can then us Automator to create an "application"

that executes a command line. You then simply put

that into your user Startup Items.

The command line allows you to set any number of displays

individually to some fraction of full brightness (assuming the extra

display brightness can be controlled by macOS, not all can).

When I get a chance, I will come up with a full procedure, but

until then if you want to try yourself, you can get the source code

here and also the instructions on how to build it:

https://github.com/nriley/brightness

Having done programming myself I reviewed all the

files online and it is "clean", i.e. no hidden nasties.

I have the same problem too, I disabled every function that could lead to increasing the brightness automatically.

Contacted Apple support and they wanted me to initialize the disk, doing a clean install.

I preferred to avoid because I believe it is a system bug and not a hardware problem.

Have any of you tried a clean install and see if the problem persists?

It seemed to me that starting the Macbook connected to the battery charger, the problem does not occur (or maybe it is my impression).

When it is not connected, however, the increase in brightness is precisely noted. Then going to check the brightness at the top right, near the time, it then seemed to be at maximum.

Do you think this is a bug or a hardware problem?

I have a MacBook Pro 13 M1, updated to the latest macOS 11.4 today and the screen brightness still keeps reverting to 100%/Max brightness. I manually changed the screen brightness to about 90% sometimes 85%, then when I reboot, the screen brightness goes up to 100% again. This is probably macOS Big Sur bug Apple has yet to address. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that Apple will fix this bug by the time macOS 11.5 is released.

Unfortunately, even after updating to the latest Big Sur 11.5 on a MacBook Pro 13 M1 yesterday, this problem is still ongoing. I set the screen brightness to about 90%, then when I restart my mac, the brightness went down to 50%. It's still not remembering my brightness setting. I know this happen to MacBook Air M1 users as well. Another problem I noticed on MacBook Pro 13 M1, is that the sound slider bar oftentimes becomes unmovable. It's just impossible to adjust the sound level from the Control Center. After restarting the mac, then it becomes movable. But the next time when I turn on my mac and sign in again, it becomes unmovable again. Anyone experiencing the same issues that I'm facing?

Hello.

I have the same issue on my MacBook Air M1 2020 - after reboot display brightness is higher. I set up brightness manually on 100 nits and after reboot - is higher again (((

All settings of display is turn off (display brightness, true tone, night shift and etc.)

(This bug not appear on my over old apple imac and laptops)

Big sur bug ???

Connected to charger or not, it happens all the same.

It is unlikely a hardware problem as preferences such as that

are (should) be saved on a user by user basis.

I guess not many are complaining as they all are using at the

full eye burning brightness or have them set to "auto everything".

As an amateur photographer, processing images requires a

constant display brightness and color profile which

"auto everything" totally messes with.

This morning I tried, just to eliminate any doubts, to perform a clean install. Unfortunately, the problem persists.

I am also a photographer, and I needed to have constant display brightness, especially after having calibrated it.

For the external monitor there is no problem, having its own adjustable brightness.

Obviously it's not the same for the Macbook Air display. At the moment I'm trying to always adjust it to the same point by eye, but obviously it's never the exact same value.

Now it would be necessary to understand if the problem is due to some Big Sur bug or to a hardware problem.

I want to hope it's a bug, what do you say?
