Apple Pencil Doesn't Write (but Double Tap Works)

I need help.

Using Apple Pencil - 2nd Generation with iPad Pro (tested on 9 and 12.9 inch versions)
The Apple Pencil connects, is 100% charged
In NotePad double tapping the pencil switched between the tools as expected.
When trying to write / draw or use anything that requires the nib there is no response from either iPad.

I've tried:

Tightening the nib
Changed the nib to a brand new Apple original nib
Resetting Blue tooth
Resetting the iPad
Disconnecting the Apple pencil, Forgetting the Apple pencil in the Bluetooth settings.

I've a strong feeling this is a hardware issue, but hoping someone has another suggestion.

No.

Try the new hard reset procedure for the 2018/2020 iPad Pro models without a Home button.

1. Press and release the volume UP button.

2. Then immediately press and release the volume DOWN button.

3. Then, press and hold the Power button at the top. You will see the Slide to Power off button, but keep on holding down the Power button until you see the Apple logo, then let it go.

Once you have performed all the steps, wait for a few seconds and your iPad Pro will boot up completely to the iPad Pro’s Lock screen.

Thanks, I tried but no joy.

I don't think it's an issue with the iPad as the pencil doesn't work with two different iPads.

Is there a way to hard reset the Apple Pencil?
