Love how you can’t update due to out dated Mac book air that I bought for 1100 bucks in 2012

One day they will allow updates on all their surface platforms

MacBook Air 11″, macOS 10.15

A 2012 laptop is over 8 years old and can run macOS 10.15 Catalina which is still supported by Apple and still receiving security updates. Your laptop is still completely usable. macOS 10.15 will be supported until near the end of 2022. Even after this time you can still continue using the laptop.

After that you can always try running Linux on the laptop if you are willing to learn another OS. Linux Mint, Kubuntu, or Ubuntu-MATE are good options to use on a Mac and you can test them out from the "Live" USB before installing the OS. Linux will give you a completely up to date OS with support for the major web browsers (Firefox, Google Chrome, Vivaldi). Linux is not for everyone though, but it is a great way to extend the usefulness of older hardware.

Make sure to have a good backup and a bootable macOS USB installer before attempting to install Linux even though you should have access to Internet Recovery Mode on a 2012 laptop.
