I use my own webserver for emails, have done so for more than a decade now. From time to time I have to "remind" Mail app to trust the certificate.
But today, when the certificate error popped up, all I could do was press OK. There wasn't a way for me to check the certificate, select the trust level and click ok.
I restarted my mac but it didn't help.
Any help?
There were no certificates to be found, strangely enough.
In the end, I removed the email account from mail and re-added it. It created a certificate and things now work correctly.

Sounds like you need to update your certificate on your webserver.
Hadn't thought of that. Then again, this problem is only on my laptop. Mail on my Mac Pro, urinsg the same mail server, works perfectly.
Try Keychain Access>Certificates
Can't tell Mail to trust certificate???
