Should I buy an iMac in the Apple Store?

I'm thinking of buying a new imac this year, if I get stimulus. Should I go to the Apple store? Or should I rely on my Mac Repairman, who knows my needs? I'm trying to cut out extra middleman charges. I've even thought of buying direct. How do I know if I have the right storage?

You could also look at Apple refurbished.

Configurations are highly person specific. My wife gets by with 120 GB, I need 1,000 GB. Something to keep in mind though is futureproofing. If you plan on keeping this computer for a while make sure you get enough of both storage and RAM. Don't get anything less than 8GB RAM and consider 16 GB if you use things like photo processing software. Neither RAM nor storage can be upgraded on most Macs these days.

Adding to the above excellent advise, I would recommend 16g of Ram and a 1TB SSD storage. The heck with hard or fusion drives. This is the advise I got from this forum last year when I bought my new iMac and it is super fast with almost no hesitation between screen changes. I know the SSD storage is expensive...but well worth it. If you get it, you'll never be inputing to this forum how slow your Mac is.
