Mouse Mats & Magic Mouses

Took a year to move to from Wintel boxes to a desktop Apple machine (Mini 2020 with LG 4K monitor) and I'm slowly learning all the little foibles of the ecosystem (like wobbling the Magic mouse to find the cursor).

However, I've had difficulty finding the simplest of things: a mouse mat that works well with the Magic Mouse. It was OK on my light grey desk but was very noisy, gathered dirt quickly and began to scratch the desktop.

I tried aluminium, foam and cloth mats, none of which lasted, were quiet or gave reliable control. The old fashioned thin vinyl mats of yesteryear (1990s) were nowhere to be found ditto recommendations for something guaranteed to work with the Magic Mouse.

In desperation, I cut up a piece of underfloor insulation left over from recent work in our home. It works very well: non-slip (almost) and the Magic Mouse works perfectly. Not entirely silent nor completely non-slip but certainly good enough.

Am I missing something here? Is there an 'Apple compatible' mouse mat out there? Happy to stick with the underfloor foam if there isn't.

Perhaps this is a Faulty Device?

It's all the wobbling causing all the scratches, You have a one-year, out-of-the-box, limited warranty. So, contact Apple Support, and have this rep'aced at. Just for note - Though not in use, this would never work as intended using it on a transparent desk (glass or plastic).

FWIW, I have a large black vinyl desktop mat I believe I got at

Staples years ago. It had a no slip backing and using my

Magic Mouse is quite quiet. That wasn't the prime reason

I got it though it was more to protect the desktop.

They had a variety of sizes. I have one large one covering most

of my desktop and a smaller one for the keyboard slide out tray.

The smaller one is 11 1/2 by 18 1/2 inches. You could actually

get that size and cut multiple mouse pads.
