pairing bluetooth devices with MacBook Pro 2021 w/ M1 processor

I have a Apple wireless mouse and keyboard that have always worked great with my 2014 Macbook Pro. The keyboard was working fine with my new 2020 MBPro, but it has stopped pairing with the keyboard. Went it to Settings -> Bluetooth and removed the keyboard to try to re-pair the keyboard. I went to Settings -> Keyboard -> Pair with Bluetooth Keyboard and it had to turn the keyboard off and on a few times to get the computer to pick up the signal. But once it connects, it immediately loses the connection. The keyboard doesn't show up as a connected device in the Bluetooth Devices. I tried changing out the batteries in the keyboard and re-paired it with the 2014 MacBook to test it. No problems wiht the 2014 computer, so the keyboard appears to be working fine. Just won't pair with the new computer any longer. Any suggestions?

Hello Courtney Kimmel,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

We understand from your post that your Apple Wireless keyboard is not staying connected to your MacBook Pro 2020 but does stay connect to your MacBook Pro 2014. The newer MacBook Pro technical specifications indicate that it uses Bluetooth 5.0 wireless technology where the older MacBook Pro uses Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology. If your Apple keyboard is 6 years old it may not be compatible with the Bluetooth 5.0 wireless technology. Us this article to determine the mode of your keyboard and the system requirements needed:
