iOS 14.4 broke screen time

Ever since installing iOS 14.4 My iPhone has been recording apps that run in background when I’m driving such as google maps and YouTube music. It still knows and blocks according to the amount of active time I use an app. It’s really frustrating as it was almost perfect in the previous version.

Hi Tvw123,

To make sure we're on the same page, when using Screen Time on your Mac, apps that are running in the background are now counting in Screen Time, whereas on previous versions of iOS they were not, is that correct?

If that is the case, the app then imposes your limits based now upon the amount of time the app has been running in the background?

Let us know in a reply to this post, and see more details about using Screen Time in the article below:

Cheers!

No, this is not a Mac issue. It’s on my iPhone. I’ll give an example to explain the problem I’m facing. Let’s say I wanted to listen to a 40 min podcast I’ll start my podcast and exit the app while it plays in the background. Screen time used to not record the 40mins worth of background run time, after the update it started recording the background run. Screen time is supposed to tell you how much time you actively use your phone not record background apps. It’s skewing my charts like crazy. Hope that explains the problem better.
