Apple Maps Navigation not preventing automatic screen lock, how do I make it stop the phone screen from dimming and locking while using Apple Maps?

When I use Wave or Google Maps, the phone screen stays open despite auto-lock in the Settings. Those two other apps also prevent the display from dimming while they are in use for navigation.

Apple Maps not staying open during navigation obviously makes is effectively impossible to use for navigation.
