Watch crashes and reboots when using GPS-tracking-app + Cellular

Apple Watch Series 5

When enabling a GPS-tracking-app like for e.g. the Workout-app or the Nike Run Club-app the watch will crash and reboot and then say: "Warning 10% battery life" after 20-40 minutes approx from 100% battery life. If I disable mobile data I can do a workout for hours with normal battery handling and no crashes. As soon as I forget to disable mobile data the watch will crash, reboot and not be usable since it'll complain about the battery-life and only display the time. After this occurs I need to do the hoop where I charge the watch to full, then shut it down for a while and then boot it up again in order for it to display "correct" battery levels.

If I disable the mobile data, do a workout for a few hours and the battery is at for e.g. 40%, as soon as I enable mobile data the watch will crash, reboot and say it has 10% battery life, even with the GPS-tracking app not active.

When using GPS + Cellular I can see the battery-life draining basically 1-2% per minute.

This behaviour was greatly exacerbated when installing WatchOS7. Have been hoping for it to be fixed with every WatchOS update, but to no prevail :( Currently on WatchOS 7.3. I've tried re-installing / re-pairing the watch, but same behavior. Thankful for any help, or if someone has experienced the same behaviour? Not sure if it's a battery-problem as the watch is working correctly when mobile data is turned off?

chriolss,

Thank you for trying the steps we recommended. We also appreciate you providing us with these additional details.

You can try erasing and setting up the watch new and testing again: Unpair and erase your Apple Watch - Apple Support

If the issue is no longer there, try restoring your Apple Watch backup: Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support

If the issue comes back when you restore your backup, it must be stored within the data. Setting your Apple Watch up new would be your best option.

If the issue continues even with the Apple Watch set up as new, please contact Apple Support for more help investigating this issue: Contact - Official Apple Support

Cheers!

Hi,

I'm using an Apple Watch Series 5 (40mm). I've updated to watchOS 7.3.1 with the same problem.

Is the companion iPhone up to date? If yes, do you get a prompt to update your carrier settings if you go to Settings > General > About?

Yeah, the iPhone is using iOS 14.4. Not getting any prompt to update carrier settings as described in the referenced article.

I usually workout by running trail-runs in the forrest, so I can't say I always get good signal on the watch. It should be noted that the crashes doesn't happen if I for e.g. run on a treadmill indoors with Mobile Data on, then however I switch to indoors on for e.g. the Nike Run Club-app, so it probably isn't tracking via GPS. But it's the combination of GPS-tracking + Mobile Data when out and about that creates issues for me.

Appreciate your help.

Kind regards
