iPhone 12 Pro max (IOS14.4) won't unmute group message

I muted a group conversation on iPhone pro max iOS 14.4. Now when I unmute it, it goes back to mute when I receive a message on the group. I've tried going into info and unmuting, also swiping left on the group name and unmuting. Still goes back to muted. I've also tried turning off alerts in messages, restarting and turning message alerts back on. Still the same thing happens. I also tried deleting the conversation and having someone add me back on. It will say unmuted until I receive a message on it and then it will mute it and I don't know it is there until I physically look at phone. (no audio). My other messages are fine. But I've never muted them and tried to unmute them. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix this? Thank you for your help.

I think I figured it out! I don't know if this will work for you all but I hope so. I have an apple watch and went to messages and unmuted the group conversation from there. This worked and the group conversation is remaining unmuted.

I think that if you are logged into another device like a watch or iPad, you'll need to unmute your conversation from there as well as your phone (sometimes).

good luck, everyone

I am ALSO having this problem! I have a group of friends who text all night long, and I had to get up early one night so muted them. Now no matter what I do, it re-mutes itself the second I go back to the home screen. I love these people and want to be a part of conversations and not miss them. I also don't want to delete the conversation if I don't have to. It's been a source of calm in quarantine!

I actually got it working again by unmuting the conversation again then going into settings, messages and turning messages off. I then restarted iPhone and went back into setting and turned messages on again. It seems to be working now. I don’t think that deleting the conversation and having someone add me back on mattered because it still muted after that. Hope this works for you also

I have an iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad and MacBook. Turns out I had (probably) muted the chat on another device. Going to one of my said other devices, muting that convo and then unmuting it seems to have worked.

The kicker was, the convo only showed muted on my phone, not on any of my other devices, but it also wasn’t alerting on any of my other devices. Which is why I muted the convo, then unmuted it. It seems to be a syncing issue, but it’s resolved now.
