Do Not Disturb App Exceptions

I would love to see Apple implement an option to have user selected Apps override the Do Not Disturb feature. There are several alerts that most users would like to receive at any time while still blocking calls, texts and most other App alerts. As with most people there are several things that need to be monitored always. These include but are not limited to: camera zone alerts, stock movement alerts and emergency weather alerts. I feel this is an important and highly useful feature and am quite surprised it is not available. If you would also like to see this option, please voice it here with the hopes of getting this feature implemented in a near future update.

Yes, please! I want to disable all alerts excepts those from my daughter’s Dexcom CGM (Dexcom follow app).

Overnight lows for type 1 diabetics are a big worry. Usually I enable Do Not Disturb on my phone and my wife disables it so we get 1/2 the garbage overnight but she still gets CGM alerts. Almost lost my daughter last night due to too much insulin. Wife left her phone on silent accidentally. My daughter can usually feel when her blood glucose is low when awake, but asleep is a different story. So lucky I caught this without any alerts (I happened to have a hard time sleeping last night).

We’ll have to do something differently to mitigate this, but if you had this feature, I’d be using it already.

Is that possible on iOS? I’m under the impression that apps can’t create an exemption for themselves. I’d be delighted to be wrong though.

They did. The developers just need to implement it.

My sense is there must be something about including it that makes things difficult for the developer or we'd see it more. Or, maybe it's there and no one is looking?

Agreed, I have an Apple Watch that mirrors the iPhone DND settings. I almost didn’t wake up from a low tonight with DND on. I would like a way to override for medical apps such as my CGM (Dexcom).

Completely agree! Earthquake alerts, security alerts, etc. app specific exceptions to do not disturb could be a real life saver!

I am a volunteer fireman and I receive dispatches through an app called Active Alert. It would be helpful if this app could bypass do not disturb.

Read through the thread before posting another "me too" post. What you need to do has already been posted here. You need to contact the App Developer to code that in.

Seems like in the upcoming iOS 15 the situation should be improved, by introducing similar functionality called “Focus”, which allows configuring exclusions for apps too.

Android had this feature. What gives?? I’d like to keep getting motion alerts from my security cameras while blocking out all the spam callers…😒

I hope that is the case. give US the control over what we think is important and stop iOS and app developers from keeping us stuck in a pass the buck round about. It’s annoying.
