I cannot seem to get the sound from my Apple TV HD to send automatically to my HomePod mini. What’s more is, when i set it manually (each time I use my tv) it cuts out intermittently and I end up with no sound at all. My internet speed is a stable 30mb/s so I’m sure it’s not that. Any ideas?

Setting as default requires a standard HomePod and an Apple TV 4K. The mini will be used the same as any other airplay speaker and it would need to be set each time. Intermittent cut outs would happen when there is an issue with the connection, and it would due to the local network so internet connection isn't relevant to that.
If the Apple TV is on Wifi try connecting it via ethernet
To check the current status of the network get a report using istumbler, netstumbler or similar. Look for signal strength, noise, nearby networks

I’ve tired the router, that highlighted some internet provision issues and my provider has been working on but they seem to be pretty well sorted now. They have put an access point immediately above my tv so my Apple TV HD and HomePod mini are both less than a meter from it

is the software up to date on all devices?
All up to date on the Apple TV HD, the HomePod mini is straight out of the box but I assume it’s up to date. There’s no way of setting it to update manually, I imagined it would do it automatically
Thanks for that. I’ve checked and everything is up to date. I know how to do it in future now but it still hasn’t solved my problem
That was just preliminary stuff. How far away from the Apple TV is the HomePod? Have you reset your WiFi router?
Have you tried resetting your Apple TV to new?

So I’ve tried this and still no joy. What’s more is that I spent the whole day resigning into apps, the remote no longer controls the volume and my home app is showing 2 Apple TV’s.
