Error: -69760: Unable to write to the last block of the device"
Hello! I am trying to re-start a new thread on this important error. Thanks in advance for your attention.
The error is arising in trying to access a crashed Seagate 2TB external USB drive.
In the previous thread (and elsewhere) there is the recommendation that Disk Management on a PC be used to initialize the drive using MBR or GUID map; and then we can bring it back to Mac and try using it once more (all data that was there is officially "erased" by me in the failed effort to get help from Disk Utility). However, on my PC I encounter the "CRC error" message on trying to do initialization.
My study of related Internet threads suggests that I cannot (in DIY mode) by-pass the CRC check done on the PC, since no drive letter can be assigned. (At Properties, I get a report that the drive is functioning normally.)
So, I feel that neither on the PC nor on the Mac (in my case) can the inability to initialize drive be defeated. So here is my question: is it a reasonable hypothesis that what I have here is a catastrophic hardware failure (a little used Seagate 2TB USB drive) that is triggering an inappropriate error message? (That is, the messgae should say "probable fatal hardware failure".)
In any event, after hours of struggle I feel that my only route to gaining access to this drive is to send it off to Seagate for "special repair" (not cost effective).
