2017 MacBook Pro 13” display blacking out

Hi, I’ve had a MacBook Pro 13” 2017 touchbar model and I’ve been using it for about 3 years and it’s been a seamless experience. However, just a few days ago I’ve begun experiencing a really scary issue where my screen blacks out if it’s opened perpendicularly or further tilted but it lights up if it’s open at a smaller angle, which makes me think it’s a hardware issue and I’ve found this to be pretty common once I searched online. It’s great to see Apple has acknowledged this by starting a repair program for 2016 models with this issue but is there any chance of this program being extended to cover the 2017 model anytime soon since it’s exactly the same problem? I’m sure it’s a really costly repair otherwise and I wasn’t expecting an Apple product to ever fail on me like this. Any recommendations on what I should do?

Projector cable issue yes— a known issue.

At this time there is no Service Program for this particular Mac. All you can do is take it in/send it in—

“Mac notebook, contact us and we'll send you a box you can use to ship it to an Apple Repair Center. We'll return your repaired product to you as quickly as possible. Depending on where you get service, you might be able to check the status of your repair online.” Start a service request https://support.apple.com/mac/repair/service

Get your Mac ready for service - Apple Support https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209095

Learn how to get your Mac fixed and how much it will cost.

I will add—

Typically in the past if Apple does release a Service Program, they have offered a refund for out of pocket expense parts & labor for the exact issue covered.

Service Programs are triggered by the percentage of all MBP of this spec vs the number of failures documented.

We are not privy to this %, or have any more insight.

A repair ticket, your Apple Feedback—all are heading in the right direction to trigger this release.

Apple Feedback http://www.apple.com/feedback

A repair at your local AppleStore or AASP will generate a "service record" for the repair on your machine—and this is all you will need to qualify—if a Service Program is issued.
