time capsule usb drive wont mount

Hi folks, after my 2020 MBPro updated Catalina supplemental update 19H524 yesterday I can no longer mount the USB drive attached to my Airport Time Capsule. It shows up as a disk option in Time Machine preferences, and is listed in the Finder window for the Time Capsule. When double-clicked to open the error message says "the operation can't be completed because the original item can't be found". The internal TC drive does mount. The USB drive can be mounted on all my other computers with various versions of MacOS. I searched around for various permissions with no luck. Any ideas?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Have you tried the simple.. power it off and on again?

That would be the TC itself with the USB drive.. plus the computer that was just updated.

No luck use Airport Utility to find the IP address of the TC.

Then in Finder use top menu.. Go and last option in the list.. Connect to Server.

Type in IP address thusly to the box that appears.

Only of course you will use your TC IP address not mine..

Click connect.. and it will request the password.. type in the password. And remember to store it in the keychain.

Does the USB drive now mount??

I wonder if security issue.. Macintosh HD .. it's usually the name of the boot disk from a Mac..

Try renaming the disk in Airport utility if that is possible or plug it into your Mac and fix the name to something generic.

OR.. you could plug in a USB memory stick and see if that mounts ok.. in which case.. the problem is clearly some increase in security.. perhaps you will need to copy the data to another location or buy another USB drive and make sure you format and configure it on the computer running latest Catalina.
